Difference Between Steam Cleaning and Dry Cleaning Carpets

The two main methods used by professional carpet cleaning companies are steam cleaning and dry cleaning.  Each carpet cleaning method has its advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to understand the difference between them.

Steam Cleaning:

Steam cleaning uses a stream of very hot water and cleaning solution pushed deep into a carpet and then suctioned out using powerful machinery. Steam cleaning generally gives a deeper clean and uses fewer chemicals than dry cleaning, however due to the high temperatures

involved there is a small risk of damage to the glues and fibres in the carpet. It will also be a few hours before the carpets can be walked on after cleaning.

Dry Cleaning:

Dry cleaning uses strong chemicals that interact with the dirt in your carpet and break it down. A machine is used to rub the chemicals into the carpet and then vacuum them out once the dirt has broken down. Very little water is used with the dry cleaning method and the carpets can be walked on almost immediately after cleaning, however this method does not clean as deeply as steam cleaning and also uses very strong chemicals.
