Carpet Cleaning FAQs

Q. Is it necessary to clean my carpets as recommended by my carpet manufacturer’s warranty?

A. Definitely. It is very important to follow the guidelines specified in your manufacturer’s warranty to prolong the life of your carpets and ensure that your warranty remains valid.

Q. How often should my carpet be cleaned?

A. The New Zealand Standard NZXA 3733:19965 recommends cleaning your carpets at least every 12 – 18 months. Carpets have an average 12 year life span and failing to get them cleaned regularly by a professional carpet cleaner will significantly reduce this life span.

Q. Can’t I just hire a carpet cleaning machine and clean the carpets myself?

A. No. Domestic and hire vacuum cleaning machines often have poor quality small motors that are unable to do an acceptable job of cleaning your carpets. They also often leave lots of chemical and water cleaning residues behind in the carpet, which leads to rapid re-soiling of your carpet. This often means that your carpets quickly end up looking even dirtier than they were before you cleaned them.

Q. How do I get rid of foul odours in my carpets or rugs?

A. Most off the shelf odour and stain removal products sold in local supermarkets are unable to completely get rid of bad smells, they only mask or hide them temporarily. A professional carpet cleaner will use powerful neutralising chemicals, oxidising agents or enzyme deodorants that actually destroy the bacteria causing the bad odours.

Q. Can mould grow on or in my carpet or rug?

A. Given the right conditions, yes it can. A combination of dry soil matter, moisture in the carpet or underlay, moderate temperatures and poor ventilation can result in mould growing on your carpet or rug in a matter of days.
